Texas-Style BBQ Ribs

6 servings

Ingredients:

  • 2 racks baby back ribs (about 3-4 lbs)

  • 1/4 cup sweet paprika

  • 1 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1 tbsp black pepper

  • 2 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar

  • 1 cup water

  • 2 cups BBQ sauce (your choice)

    Instructions:

    1. Preheat your smoker, charcoal grill, or oven to 250°F (120°C).

    2. In a bowl, combine paprika, brown sugar, black pepper, salt, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well.

    3. Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs, if it’s still attached. Pat the ribs dry with paper towels.

    4. Rub the spice mix generously over both sides of the ribs.

    5. In a spray bottle, mix apple cider vinegar and water. This will be your mop sauce for keeping the ribs moist during cooking.

    6. Place the ribs on the smoker, grill, or if using an oven, on a rack in a large baking tray. Cook for about 3 hours, spraying with the mop sauce every 30 minutes to keep them moist.

    7. After 3 hours, check the ribs for tenderness. Once they’re tender, brush BBQ sauce over the ribs and cook for an additional 30 minutes to allow the sauce to caramelize slightly.

    8. Remove the ribs from the smoker, grill, or oven, and let them rest for about 10 minutes before cutting into individual servings.

    9. Serve warm with additional BBQ sauce on the side, if desired.
