Pulled Pork Sandwiches

  • 2 kg (4.4 lbs) pork shoulder
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • Buns, for serving
  • Coleslaw, for serving (optional)

  1. Mix together the salt, ground black pepper, smoked paprika, and garlic powder. Rub the mixture all over the pork shoulder, ensuring it is well-coated.
  2. Place the seasoned pork in a slow cooker.
  3. In a bowl, combine barbecue sauce, apple cider vinegar, chicken broth, light brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, minced garlic, and chopped onion. Pour this mixture over the pork in the slow cooker.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours, or until the pork is tender and shreds easily with a fork.
  5. Remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred using two forks. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and stir it into the sauce.
  6. Serve the pulled pork on buns, topped with coleslaw if desired.
