Butter Chicken Recipe


  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons turmeric powder
  • 2 teaspoons garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons ginger garlic paste
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 14 ounces crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Cooking Instructions:

  1. Marinate the chicken with yogurt, lemon juice, turmeric, garam masala, chili powder, and ginger garlic paste. Let it marinate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.
  2. In a large pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onions and sauté until they are soft and golden brown.
  3. Add the marinated chicken to the pan and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the chicken is white on all sides.
  4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, sugar, and salt. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Pour in the heavy cream and mix well. Simmer uncovered for another 10 minutes.
  6. Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving. Serve with rice or naan bread.
