Swedish Meatballs
Ingredients
- 500 g ground beef
- 250 g ground pork
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons butter
- For the sauce:
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Soak breadcrumbs in milk for 5 minutes in a large bowl.
- Add ground beef, ground pork, egg, onion, allspice, nutmeg, black pepper, and salt to the breadcrumb mixture. Mix until well combined.
- Form the mixture into small meatballs, making about 24 meatballs.
- In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons butter over medium heat. Add meatballs and cook until all sides are browned and meatballs are cooked through, about 10-15 minutes. Remove meatballs and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt 3 tablespoons of butter. Whisk in flour until it forms a smooth paste. Gradually whisk in beef broth and bring the mixture to a simmer. Add cream, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard. Season with salt and pepper. Continue to simmer until the sauce thickens.
- Return meatballs to the skillet with the sauce and simmer for an additional 5 minutes, or until heated through.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
